Community focused pharmacy hosts sponsored book sale for local children’s charity
MedicX Pharmacy Blackpool has presented a cheque for £976, which the pharmacy team raised from a book sale, to local charity Brian House Children’s Hospice part of the Trinity Hospice and Palliative Care Service.
Originally a member of the MedicX Pharmacy team donated a number of books which were displayed in the pharmacy and advertised on posters in-store. The idea soon caught on and customers started to bring in their unwanted books. During the past few months several hundred books have successfully found new owners.
MedicX Pharmacy central team office pledged to double any money raised by the local pharmacy team and so the £488 generated from book sales, meant a cheque for £976 was presented to Julie Swift from Trinity Hospice and Palliative Care Services in late May 2011.
Gavin Birchall, Operations Director, MedicX Pharmacy, comments:
“This has proved to be a very popular local initiative and a great example of MedicX Pharmacy’s commitment in being involved in the local community. The success of the book sale has been better than expected and we look forward to holding other charity events in the near future”.
