MedicX Pharmacy, part of the MedicX Group, celebrated its first year of opening last week with a cake for the pharmacy team to share. The community pharmacy, located near to the Library House Surgery, Peel Street, Chorley, has welcomed an impressive 60,000 plus visitors from the local community in its first year of opening. The pharmacy team which is staffed by twelve local employees took this milestone as an opportunity to reflect on what has been an incredible year...
A year of success
The pharmacy, which opened in January 2009, has gone from strength to strength over the past year and despite the recent bouts of bad weather continued to open from early morning until 10pm, 365 days a year, offering a valuable pharmacy service to all the residents of Chorley and surrounding villages. The home delivery service in particular was greatly appreciated by the pharmacy's more elderly patients, many of whom were housebound due to icy conditions, but of course still need their regular medication and MedicX Pharmacy was there to help them.
Benefiting the Chorley community
It has been a year of constant growth in business activity for the Chorley pharmacy and the team has enjoyed becoming part of the local community through a number of community out-reach initiatives.
During the recent swine flu outbreak the MedicX Pharmacy in Chorley became one of only three pharmacies in Central Lancashire that was chosen by the NHS as a distribution point for Tamiflu. Its long opening hours and private consultation rooms were ideal for providing this service and have successfully seen hundreds of patients treated in the last two months.
The pharmacy team also successfully raised £200 via a book sale for the Derian House Hospice and a cheque will be presented in the next few weeks for £400 as the MedicX Group has matched the amount raised by the Chorley pharmacy team.
In the summer of 2009 the pharmacy team manned a table outside the pharmacy offering advice on holiday medication and sunscreen products to passers by. People on their way to work were reported to be pleasantly surprised by this approach, with many of them returning later in the day to the pharmacy to discuss their holiday health needs. In addition to this advice, visits to the local Mosque and various care centers for the elderly around Chorley were arranged to explain how a full understanding of medication can aid better compliance and improve patient health.
Steve Jeffers, Director MedicX Pharmacy commented:
"It has been an exciting first year for our pharmacy team in Chorley and I know they have enjoyed helping thousands of people understand their health better to enable them to get the best out of their medicines. We look forward to the pharmacy's continued success in 2010 and undertaking further work in the Chorley community."
