MedicX pharmacy team step in to help victims of Blackpool fire

23.07.10

The team at the MedicX pharmacy in Blackpool were praised for their dedication and hard work in providing emergency prescriptions for the victims of a large hotel fire in Blackpool on Monday 12 July.

The pharmacy was contacted by the medical director of NHS Blackpool following the evacuation of all 169 hotel guests, with a request to stay open late to dispense emergency drugs to those who would not be able to retrieve their medication from the blaze. 260 prescriptions were distributed before the pharmacy was able to close at half past midnight.

Three pharmacy team members and Simon, the pharmacist, had already worked long days, putting in an incredible effort to remain focused and professional late into the night.

The fire, which is being investigated as suspected arson, broke out in the cellar of The Queen's Hotel. Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Gavin Birchall, MedicX Pharmacy's operations manager, commented:

"We are very grateful for the fantastic effort put in by the Blackpool team on Monday night. They showed absolute professionalism in tough circumstances and we are very proud of the way they tackled this emergency. We hope they enjoy a well deserved meal out together from us as a way of showing our appreciation."
